Esteemed Quilt designer, lecturer, and instructor Annie Smith will be presenting and teaching at the upcoming Nauvoo Quilt Festival in July. She and
SimpleArts produce a weekly quilting-themed, Internet podcast, Quilting Stash, at www.simplearts.com. Podcasts are much akin to radio
shows, except you can listen to them with your computer or iPod on demand – any time you want.

She has been involved in all aspects of quilting for over 25 years and has

many quilt awards to her credit. She has been a quilting class instructor for over 15 years. She is now producing her own line of quilt patterns featuring machine appliqué techniques. Annie is a quilt show judge and show producer.

Annie travels all around the United States delivering lectures and workshops to guilds and shops and private groups. She is best known for “Help, My Fabric Stash Is Growing and I Can’t Make It Stop!” a humorous look at various, real fabric stashes, and how Annie has learned to conquer her own out-of-control stash and turn it into a welcome feature of her studio (Her lecture schedule will be published on the "schedule page" of this site).
Annie says, “Quilting has plenty of people writing books and talking technique and how-to, I want to share the things that excite me about the craft, the things that inspire me every day and make me want to do nothing else but quilt every day."

Classes presented by Annie during the Festival:

Friday July 11 - Keeping Your Legacy Alive
Each of our quilts has our personal story hidden inside.  Annie will inspire participants to see and unlock the personal story inside their quilt, how to document the information and preserve swatches and pictures to create an heirloom for future generations, a companion to their quilts.

Friday July 12 - Help! My Fabric Stash is Growing and I Can’t Make It Stop!
Take a humorous look at the quilter’s nature to multiply. See some famous and not-so-famous quilter’s stashes. This is for the quilter who loves fabric and needs to find creative ways to manage and get control over their stash. Isn’t that just about every quilter you know?

“Annie’s lecture and workshop combines the best of both worlds. Her lecture
provided the inspiration and her workshop gave me the education I need to
become a better quilter.” - Shannon Colin, lecture and workshop student

From the time you enter kindergarten until you graduate from college, you are trained to think with only one half of your brain. But that analytical side needs to be balanced by your creativity in order to create art. This class will help you open up and use both sides of your brain, so that your quilt projects don't end up at the back of your closet unfinished, but instead end up on your bed or your wall.
